Guelph Organic Waste Processing Facility

The Guelph Organic Waste Processing Facility joined the Convertus network in 2025 through the acquisition of AIM Environmental Group. Operating since 2011, the facility processes more than 30,000 tonnes of source-separated organics (SSO) each year from the City of Guelph, and Region of Waterloo, serving over 620,000 residents.

Using in-vessel composting and aerated static pile (ASP) technology, the site produces around 7,000 tonnes of high-quality Category A compost. It was one of the first composting facilities in North America to integrate acid scrubbing for ammonia control. This system reduces off-site odour and generates ammonium sulphate, which is reused as a soil additive in agriculture.
