Convertus Hosts Annual Free Tree Giveaway

On Saturday, September 21, Convertus hosted its annual tree depot in collaboration with ReForest London’s Neighbourhood Tree Depot program. This initiative provided the community with trees native to the London area, promoting local biodiversity and enhancing urban greening efforts.

The event welcomed community members who picked up free trees and learned about the importance of native species in supporting local ecosystems. The 100 trees distributed included top native varieties such as cherry, maple, birch, plum, and more. These trees not only contribute to improving air quality, but also provide habitat for wildlife, and create a greener community.

Over the years, The Neighbourhood Tree Depot initiative has distributed thousands of free trees to London residents. Unfortunately, the program is set to conclude after the Fall 2024 season due to the conclusion of the funding program that has been essential to supporting the depots since they began. The good news is that ReForet London is open to reinstating the program with adequate funding in the future. “Convertus is incredibly grateful for the years of partnership with ReForest London for the Neighbourhood Tree Depot program,” said Chiara Cruz, Communications Assistant at Convertus. “Together, we have made a significant and lasting impact on the landscape of London, enhancing our urban environment and fostering a sense of community around sustainability.”

Looking ahead, Convertus remains committed to promoting sustainability and environmental stewardship. The legacy of the Neighbourhood Tree Depot program will inspire ongoing efforts to create greener, healthier communities. Through continued dedication to green and sustainable initiatives, there is hope for a thriving environment for generations to come.
