Saint-Étienne-des-Grès Facility
Located in the municipality of Saint-Étienne-des-Grès in Quebec, the Convertus Mauricie (Enercycle) facility is set to be operational by 2026. In partnership with Energére, a leading energy services company (ESCo) in Quebec for over 25 years, Convertus will design, build, finance and operate a state-of-the-art organic waste processing facility in the region under a 20-year operating contract. The Saint-Étienne-des-Grès facility will be the first facility of its kind in the region to process Source – Separated Organics (SSO).
This facility will process up to 38,500 tonnes of SSO annually from 37 municipalities, converting it into renewable energy and nutrient-rich compost. It will utilize advanced dry anaerobic digestion and in-vessel composting technology. The Mauricie facility also features an advanced odour abatement system consisting of biofilters, and ammonia scrubbers ensuring effective odour reduction.
Equipped with four anaerobic digestion tunnels and four composting tunnels, where waste will be stored for approximately two-three weeks in each stage, the facility is expected to produce approximately 8,000 tonnes of nutrient-rich compost annually and generate biogas that will be inserted into the local gas line for the community to use, reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The facility will also produce approximately 200,000 litres of ammonium sulfate that will be used as a nitrogen source in agriculture.
